3 ISC athletes travelled to Tokyo as part of Team GB for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
One-time Commonwealth gold medallist Zoe Smith will represent Great Britain in the Women’s 59kg weightlifting category. Smith finished 10th in the Women’s 58kg category at London 2012, but missed Rio 2016 due to injury. Her competition includes Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Hsing-chun, the current world record holder for the weight class.
Zoe finished 8th with a total weight lift of 200kg.
Fresh off helping Saracens return to the Premiership, Ben Harris travels to Tokyo as part of Team GB’s rugby sevens squad. Harris is just 21 years old, but has already made a major impact on the Saracens and England 7s squad, being named Men’s Sevens Player of the Year in 2020. He will look to help Team GB improve on the silver medal they earned in Rio five years ago.
Ben scored 4 tries in the tournament. Team GB finished 4th.
After four Paralympics and eight medals in the pool, Claire Cashmore will make her Paralympic paratriathlon debut in Tokyo. Having transitioned to paratriathlon following the Rio Paralympics, Claire began competing in 2017, eventually earning the PTS5 ITU World Championship in 2019. She is considered one of the favourites in the PTS5 classification in Tokyo.
Claire took bronze in an incredibly close PTS5 women’s triathlon.
The 2020 Olympic Games ran from July 23rd to August 8th. The 2020 Paralympic Games run from August 24th to September 5th.
