After 2 impressive seasons at the Stoop, backrow Tom Lawday, has signed a long-term contract extension with the club.

Arriving at Harlequins ahead of the 2019/20 season from Gallagher Premiership rivals Exeter Chiefs, the Dorchester-born forward has become a regular feature within the Quins matchday 23, ramping up the competition for places in a talented backrow unit in South West London.

Able to play across the entire backrow, Lawday has featured for Harlequins on 26 occasions to date, captaining the side for the first time on the road to Worcester Warriors in Round 16 of the 2019/20 season.

“I’m really happy to be able to extend my time at Quins. We have a great group here with a real mixture of personalities and skills. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Club and something I’m looking forward to seeing flourish.

“We’re a team with the ability to beat anyone on any given day when we’re in full flow, but there’s still room for improvement. It’s a great place to be as a team. I’ve made some great friends here and can’t wait to see how far we can go as a group.”

Harlequins Lineout and Defence Coach Jerry Flannery commented on Lawday’s extension:

“Tom is a fantastic athlete and a real workhorse in our pack. His versatility across the whole back row is a huge asset. There’s real competition in that backrow unit and Tom is one of the guys driving that.

“We’ve seen some great rugby from Tom so far but with his determination and the mindset for improvement he has in his locker, I know there’s even more to come.

“It’s a real boost to have Tom join the host of players to have re-signed with Quins.”
