Freddie Burns to rejoin Leicester Tigers

I can’t wait to be back in Leicester and part of the club again. I am coming back to compete and want to be playing in the Premiership once again.

Freddie Burns

Long standing client Freddie Burns will rejoin Leicester Tigers ahead of the 2020/21 Premiership season following a year in Japan with Toyota Shokki Shuttles.

Burns first signed for Leicester from Gloucester back in 2014 and spent three seasons with the East Midlands outfit, scoring over 500 points. The fly-half, also capable of playing at full-back, was voted the Supporters’ Player of the Year in the 2016/17 season, during which he helped the club to an Anglo-Welsh Cup title win.

He departed Leicester to join Bath - the club with whom he had spent his youth career - in 2017 and went on to make 47 appearances for his hometown side. During his spells with Gloucester, Leicester and Bath, the utility back amassed 1344 points, making him the Premiership’s 11th all-time top scorer.

Having played in the Premiership for the entirety of his 11-year senior career, Burns swapped England for Japan in 2020 to sign for Toyota Shokki Shuttles.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed great success during his short time in Asia. He made his debut for the Shuttles in February, and has started every match this season as the Shuttles have won five from five in the Top Challenge League to top their group and progress past the semi finals. The Shuttles face Kintetsu Liners in the Top Challenge League final on 3 April.

Burns has also been capped five times by England, first breaking into the national team during his time with Gloucester in 2012.

He is an experienced Premiership player who has played international rugby and will be a valuable addition to our squad. I have been impressed with the way Freddie has spoken about wanting to be a part of what we are building at Tigers and his determination to be a leader in our squad.
