Maxime Chanot helps New York City FC's to their 1st ever MLS Cup!

New York City FC have won their first-ever MLS Cup title, stunning the Portland Timbers in penalty kicks in Saturday's MLS Cup Final at Providence Park, prevailing 4-2 in the decisive shootout after the match finished in a 1-1 deadlock through regulation and extra time.

Having led for large parts of the game, largely by a stalwart effort from their backline fueled by the centre back duo of Maxime Chanot and Alexander Callens, NYCFC were struck by a killer blow as Mora sent the match into extra time on the final play of regulation with one of the most dramatic late goals in MLS Cup history. The Chilean international forward pounced on a loose ball in the box following a mad scramble and slotted the finish past Johnson, sending the crowd of 25,218 onlookers at Providence Park into bedlam.

Despite all this, NYCFC didn't let this affect them and showed the perseverance and fight which got them to this final, as they held their nerve in the penalty shootout to bring back the trophy. A huge upset, and a result that few would have predicted only 2 months ago!

It capped off another excellent season for Maxime, whereby he made 30 MLS starts, and had a key role in their winning cup run, playing every single minute.

Congrats Maxime!
